Challenge #23 - Podcast Inspiration
JULIA
I’ve decided that along with the bookshelf test, I’m going to put any potential partners to a podcast test.
AMANDA
Say what now?
JULIA
Some people, I’ve discovered, can have a perfectly normal selection of books - I think because they’ve learned that people do pay attention to bookshelves and they don’t want to be red flagged right off the bat, but their podcast queue can be legitimately insane. The last guy I went home with, a couple James Pattersons, an Erik Larson, The Goldfinch - so he looks like he’ll at least attempt to read a book written by a woman. Beige to green flags and I was confident that this was going to be a good night but then when he was connecting his phone to put on some music and what he was last listening to started… It was Andrew Tate. I got out of there so fast.
AMANDA
Understandable. But how are you going to see what podcasts they listen to? It’s not as easy as looking at shelf, some people are really shady with their phones.
JULIA
I thought about that and my solution: talk about the most leftist podcast I can find and see if they bite.
AMANDA
What’s the most leftist podcast you can find?
JULIA
I’ll let you know when I find it.
AMANDA
I am so glad I don’t have to worry about dating.
JULIA
Ug, don’t remind me. I’m so happy for you but also I’m so jealous I want to kill you.
AMANDA
Red flag.
JULIA
Good point. Maybe I should work on myself before judging others’ podcast choices.
AMANDA
I feel like Andrew Tate is okay to judge. Actually, I don’t know much about the podcasting space other than the RPG actual play podcasts but I think there are quite a few you could judge by the name. Or the host’s name. Or the first 90 seconds of the show. Like, it doesn’t take you long to realize Fox News is on as opposed to CNN. It’s a pretty quick vibe check.
JULIA
I hate that we live in a world with vibe checks. I just want good vibes only. Compassion vibes 2020.
AMANDA
Compassion is so last news cycle.
JULIA
I’m depressed. Let’s get ice cream.
AMANDA
Yes, please. On me because I don’t have to deal with podcast bros ever.
