HANA, at a table in a restaurant, nervous. When MALLORY enters she visibly relaxes. MALLORY sits across from HANA, a deflated balloon that is putting on a brave face for her friend.
MALLORY
I’m so sorry I’m late! I was going to shoot you a text but I accidentally left my phone at home and I didn’t want to have you wait any longer because of my stupid mistake.
HANA
I’m just glad you are okay, I was starting to get worried.
MALLORY
I didn’t mean to make you worry on my account.
HANA
You are my friend, of course I worry.
MALLORY
This isn’t about me. It’s about you! We’re celebrating you! I can’t even imagine how you’ve survived this past year! A baby, a dissertation, and a full time job!
HANA
There were certainly times I didn’t think I would make it.
MALLORY
But you did and now we celebrate! Have you decided what you are going to get?
HANA
Thank you. Yes. But before, you are sure you are okay.
MALLORY
Of course mon amie.
HANA
Tres bon. Then we will celebrate both of our accomplishments this year. Ching-ching.
MALLORY
Ching-ching.
