Playwriting Every Day in November Day 2

Day 2 Challenge:
Fire Escape Scene

(MARCIA and FIONA are on MARCIA’s fire escape balcony on the third floor. The audience is on the ground, watching the scene. FIONA is roughly 20 years old. They look like they are on a stakeout)

MARCIA
Grace is normally home by now. Do you think Mr. Harris got to her?

FIONA
It’s certainly a possibility. Do you see his car on the street?

MARCIA
I don’t know. What color car does he have again?

FIONA
I don’t remember. I’ve never seen him in it but I think you said before it was a red sedan.

MARCIA
Oh, yes. His father gave it to him for his 18th Birthday. He spoiled him. No wonder Mr. Harris turned out like he did.

FIONA
I don’t see a red car, grandma. And I’m getting a little chilly. Are you cold?

MARCIA
Maybe a little.

FIONA
Let’s go inside and make some tea.
(MARCIA hesitates)
We can come right out once it’s done. It’d just be nice to have something to warm my hands.

MARCIA
Alright. Let’s go inside. But if Grace isn’t home by the time we come back, I want to call her.

FIONA
Okay. We’ll make sure to do that.

(They go back inside. End of scene)
